“Ready Player One” Wins US Weekend Box Office; “Acrimony” Takes #2

“Ready Player One” and “Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” debuted in the top two spots.

The week’s two highest-profile newcomers predictably earn the top two spots on the US weekend box office chart.

“Ready Player One” takes #1 on this week’s listing, while “Tyler Perry’s Acrimony” grabs #2.

“Ready Player One” will close the three-day weekend with an estimated $41.2 million. With its Thursday number included, the film boasts a cumulative gross of $53.2 million.

“Acrimony” will earn an estimated $17.1 million over the three-day weekend.

“Black Panther” takes third place on this weekend’s chart; the blockbuster earned $11.3 million. The figure brings its cumulative mark to $650.7 million.

“I Can Only Imagine” follows at #4 with $10.8 million (cume now $55.6 million), while “Pacific Rim Uprising” grabs #5 on the strength of $9.2 million (cume now $45.7 million).

— “God’s Not Dead: A Light In Darkness,” the only other fairly wide new release this weekend, earned $2.6 million from just under 1700 screens. It takes #12 on the chart.
