Louisa Releases Fun, Energetic, Christina Aguilera-Inspired “YES” (Listen Now)

“YES (featuring 2 Chainz)” is Louisa’s best single yet.

There is no questioning the vocal talent of series twelve “X Factor” winner Louisa Johnson. There is no disputing that she shined as a featured artist on Clean Bandit’s “Tears.”

Question did, however, emerge over whether recent solo singles “So Good” and “Best Behaviour” successfully showcased her talent — and captured her vibe. The latter, in particular, seemed to dampen the qualities that make her such an appealing artist.

New single “YES (featuring 2 Chainz)” is the perfect response to such concern. It is a perfect song for the young artist — and a resounding statement on why she warrants the music industry’s attention.

Now branded strictly as Louisa (no Johnson), the artist powers through the song with a fun, captivating vocal performance.

The style of the song (and some of Louisa’s vocal proclivities) unquestionably calls to mind Christina Aguilera’s music from the early 2000s, but it never feels like a copycat effort. It also never feels particularly dated.

Louisa sings with far too much energy — and far too much personality and confidence — to be mistaken for anything other than a fresh, talented star.

2 Chainz’ verse adds to the fun, breezy feel.

No, this song is not a gamechanging pop classic. It may not be enough to complete restore Louisa’s momentum.

It does, however, represent an enormous step in the right direction for the artist. And it is definitely worthy of some listens this weekend.
