Update: It turns out “Black Panther” actually posted the second-biggest four-day total in US box office history.
While estimates had the film earning $235 million over Presidents’ Day Weekend, actual data confirms the number at $242.0 million.
The figure tops the $241.6 million earned by “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in its first four days.
Only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($288.1 million) has earned more money within a four-day window.

“Black Panther” utterly conquered the Presidents’ Day weekend box office in the United States.
Per studio estimates, the film will close the four-day weekend $235 million in receipts. The figure, which tops that of the weekend’s #2 film by a factor of 10, ranks as the third-biggest 4-day tally in history.
Only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($288.1 million) and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” ($241.6 million) earned more in their first four days.
Estimates for the three-day weekend were also adjusted up, with “Black Panther” officially crossing $200 million by the close of business on Sunday. Only four other films — the aforementioned two “Star Wars” movies, “Jurassic World” and “The Avengers” — have grossed more than $200 million in a single three-day weekend.
As for the four-day period, “Peter Rabbit” holds at #2 with $23.1 million. Its cumulative total now stands at $54.1 million.
“Fifty Shades Freed” slips two spots to #3 with $19.5 million (cume now $78.6 million), while “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” holds at #4 with $10.0 million (cume now $379.7 million).
Down two place, “The 15:17 To Paris” grabs #5 with $9.1 million (cume now $26.9 million).
— “Early Man,” the weekend’s only other major new release, struggled at the US box office. It earned a mere $4.2 million in its first four days. The film takes #7 on the holiday weekend chart.
“Samson,” which launched on a semi-wide basis (just under 1250 screens), takes #11 with $2.3 million.
