“Fifty Shades Freed” Claims #1 At US Weekend Box Office; “Peter Rabbit” Earns #2

“Fifty Shades” and “Peter Rabbit” unsurprisingly ranked as the weekend’s top two films.

In the epitome of a predictable outcome, “Fifty Shades Freed” earns #1 at the US weekend box office.

The film will close its opening weekend with an estimated $38.8 million in US receipts. While the figure trails the $46.6 million attained by “Fifty Shades Darker,” it is still enough for a comfortable #1 bow on this week’s chart.

Fellow newcomer “Peter Rabbit,” which debuts at #2, earned $25.0 million in its inaugural frame.

“The 15:17 To Paris,” the third of this weekend’s big new releases, follows at #3. It earned $12.6 million.

“Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle,” last weekend’s winner, slips to #4. It added $9.8 million to its haul, bringing its cumulative total to $365.7 million.

Down one place, “The Greatest Showman” takes #5 with $6.4 million (cume now $146.5 million).
