The two-hour premiere of FOX’s “The Four” attracted a fairly modest audience.
According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, the music competition series averaged a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating and 3.65 million viewers in the 8PM hour. The 9PM hour drew a slightly stronger 1.2 rating and 3.81 million in overall viewership.
While the numbers are certainly not terrible by modern TV standards, they do not establish “The Four” as a hit series. They also feel disappointing given the level of promotion surrounding Thursday’s premiere — and the broad appeal of competition series.
As a point of music competition comparison, the most recent season of “The Voice” did not go below a 1.7 in adults 18-49 — or 8.23 million in overall viewership.
It is, of course, worth seeing how the show holds up in the coming weeks. While the aforementioned numbers are underwhelming for a heavily hyped premiere, FOX might be content if the show could hold at (let alone build on) this audience level for the duration of the season (especially once ABC’s “TGIT” lineup returns on January 18).
