“Jigsaw” Wins US Weekend Box Office As “Thank You For Your Service,” “Suburbicon” Bomb

The first “Saw” film in seven years earns #1 at the US weekend box office.

Three major new releases opened at the US box office this weekend.

Only one even landed in the Top 5.

“Jigsaw,” that film, claims #1 on this weekend’s chart. It earned an estimated $16.3 million in its first weekend.

While the gross was enough for a convincing #1 bow, it is low by “Saw” franchise standards. Only 2009’s “Saw VII” ($14.1 million) posted a smaller opening weekend gross.

“Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween,” which took first place weekend, grabs #2 on this weekend’s chart. It added $10.0 million to its haul (cume now $35.5 million).

“Geostorm” follows at #3 with $5.7 million (cume now $23.6 million), while “Happy Death Day” grabs #4 on the strength of $5.1 million (cume now $48.4 million).

“Blade Runner 2049,” which earned $4.0 million (cume now $81.4 million), completes the Top 5.

— “Thank You For Service” and “Suburbicon,” the weekend’s other two big releases, both bombed in their debuts.

“Thank You For Service” starts at #6 with $3.7 million, while “Suburbicon” earns #9 with a paltry $2.8 million.
