Shania Twain’s “Now” Wins US Album Sales Race, Takes #1 On Billboard 200

Shania Twain scores her second career #1 album in the United States.

Update: Billboard has made the news official: Shania Twain’s “Now” debuts at #1 on the Top Album Sales and Billboard 200 charts.

It tops the former thanks to what Billboard reports as 134K in pure first-week US sales.

With TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) included, “Now” generated 137K in first-week consumption. That figure allows for the #1 debut on the Billboard 200.

“Now” is Twain’s second career #1 album. She previously topped the chart with 2002’s “Up!”

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Greatest Hits” takes #2 on this week’s Billboard 200. It generated 84K in weekly consumption units.

Demi Lovato’s “Tell Me You Love Me” debuts at #3 with 75K units, while A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s “The Bigger Artist” starts at #4 on the strength of 67K units.

Credited with 45K first-week units, Miley Cyrus’ “Younger Now” debuts at #5.

Due later this weekend, Billboard’s more authoritative data may differ slightly from that reported by Hits and BuzzAngle. The discrepancies will not, however, affect the ultimate outcomes.

The pure sales total will earn “Now” #1 on Billboard Top Album Sales, while consumption figure will yield a #1 debut ont he Billboard 200.

“Now” is Twain’s first studio album since 2002’s “Up!” It follows that album in becoming the iconic artist’s second #1 on the Billboard 200.

In addition to the enthusiasm one would expect for a new Shania Twain album, “Now” benefited from promotional bundles. The “Now” album was included with certain merchandise and tour purchases.
