Ratings Update: “This Is Us” Season 2 Sets New Highs In Demo, Viewers

Tuesday’s “This Is Us” was the highest-rated and most-watched episode yet.

Update 2: Citing final national data, NBC reveals that Tuesday’s “This Is Us” season premiere set new series highs in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

The season 2 opener drew a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating and 12.9 million overall viewers.

Set by the season 1 finale, its previous high marks were a 3.4 in the demo and 12.8 million in viewers.

NBC’s Tuesday lineup also included “The Voice” (2.7, 10.9 million) and “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders” (1.6, 6.1 million).

Update: Season two of NBC’s “This Is Us” got off to a very strong start.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s season premiere drew a strong 3.8 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 12.64 million overall viewers.

The adults 18-49 rating represents a series high for the show; it tops the previous high of 3.4 set by the first season finale.

The viewership figure is the show’s second best on record (said first season finale drew 12.84 million viewers).

Both numbers, moreover, represent huge increases over the 2.8 rating and 10.07 million viewer figure posted by the September 2016 series premiere.

“This Is Us” was Tuesday’s #1 show in adults 18-49. It trailed only “NCIS” to rank as the #2 show in overall viewers.

NBC led into “This Is Us” with “The Voice” (2.6, 10.62 million). It followed “This Is Us” with “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders” (1.7, 6.22 million).

The season premiere of NBC’s “This Is Us” predictably fared well from a ratings standpoint.

According to metered market data posted by Programming Insider, Tuesday’s “This Is Us” drew an 8.8 overnight household rating.

It narrowly beat CBS’ “NCIS” to rank as Tuesday’s top show in that regard.

The rating markedly tops the 6.4 delivered by the September 2016 series premiere — and ranks as the critically acclaimed drama’s second best on record. Only the first season finale (9.0) fared better in the overnights.

Preliminary adults 18-49 and total viewership data will emerge by 11:15AM ET. “This Is Us” is a lock to rank as Tuesday’s leader in adults 18-49; it will be at or near the top of the leaderboard for overall audience.
