“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” Wins US Friday Box Office With Bigger First Day Than Original

“Kingsman 2” fared well at the US Friday box office. “The LEGO Ninjago Movie” had a modest bow.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” made a solid opening day mark at the US box office. It outperformed the original “Kingsman,” convincingly ranked as Friday’s top film, and set itself up for a clear weekend victory.

The film earned $15.3 million Friday (including $3.4 million from Thursday previews), which bests the $10.4 million opening day mark posted by 2015’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”

Thanks to a 48% jump in business on Saturday, the 2015 original reached $36.2 million by the end of its first three days.

“The Golden Circle” is not expected to enjoy a gain of that proportion on Saturday, but it should still post a slightly better three-day weekend total. Current projections have the new film earning about $37-43 million.

As for this Friday’s box office, smash hit “It” grabbed the #2 slot with $9.1 million.

“The LEGO Ninjago Movie” landed in third with a modest $5.8 million in opening day earnings. It will likely close the weekend with about $20 million — a far cry from the $53.0 million posted by “The LEGO Batman Movie.”

“American Assassin” ($1.9 million, #4) and “Home Again” (#1.1 million, #5) completed the Friday Top 5.
