Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands” moved up to #2 on this past week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
It has a very good chance of reaching #1 this week.
The single received 2,362 spins on Sunday, which marked the first day of the September 17-23 tracking period.
Up 3.6% from last Sunday’s mark, the count positions “Slow Hands” at #1 on Mediabase’s building chart for the week.
It does not have a huge lead. Charlie Puth’s “Attention,” which spent the past four weeks at #1, is only five spins behind on the current building chart.
“Slow Hands” does, however, have a clear momentum advantage. While its 3.6% week-over-week gain is nothing about which to write home, it is certainly better than the 6.3% loss for “Attention.” Assuming they remain on those rough trajectories, “Slow Hands” will establish a definitive lead by the close of tracking.
No other song seems capable of catching up this week.
Should it reach #1, “Slow Hands” will become Horan’s first career chart-topper at the format. No One Direction single went higher than #4, and his previous solo single “This Town” missed the Top 10.
