“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” Wins Very Soft US Weekend Box Office; “Leap!” Takes #3

“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” tops a second consecutive US weekend box office.

For the second straight weekend, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” claims #1 at the US box office.

The real story, however, is the soft overall box office performance.

Based on studio estimates, this weekend’s box office total was the lowest in three years (while some outlets are saying it was the worst in over fifteen years, Deadline notes that the last to do worse actually came in September 2014).

“The Hitman’s Bodyguard” managed a victory with just $10.1 million in receipts. The haul improves its cumulative gross to $39.6 million.

“Annabelle: Creation” holds at #2 with an estimated $7.4 million (cume now $77.9 million), while “Leap!” debuts at #3 with $5.0 million.

“Wind River,” which expanded to nearly 2100 screens, rises six spots to #4. It earned $4.4 million this weekend (cume now $9.8 million).

Down two places, “Logan Lucky” takes #5 with $4.4 million (cume now $15.0 million).

— New release “Birth Of The Dragon,” which launched on just over 1600 screens, debuts at #8. It earned only $2.5 million.
