Brand New’s “Science Fiction” Pacing For #1 With 55-60K Album Sales, Units

The brand new Brand New album is projected to debut at #1.

Brand New may be on the verge of scoring its first #1 album in the United States.

Based on (limited) opening weekend data, Hits Daily Double projects that Brand New’s new “Science Fiction” will close the week with 55-60,000 pure US sales. The figure will yield a #1 bow on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart.

“Science Fiction” will only receive a negligible boost from TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500), but a combined unit total in the 55-60K range should still be enough for #1 on the Billboard 200. Kendrick Lamar’s enduring “DAMN.,” which would be the biggest threat, shifted 43,000 units last week (and will doubtfully make a big gain this week).

“Science Fiction” is the band’s first studio album since 2009’s “Daisy,” which peaked at #6.

It may be the band’s last, at least for the time being. A recent T-shirt design is fueling speculation that Brand New will be breaking up in 2018.
