“Annabelle: Creation” Dominates US Weekend Box Office, “The Nut Job 2” Starts At #3

“Annabelle: Creation” convincingly won the weekend box office battle.

The prequel to 2014’s “Annabelle” debuts as a clear #1 at the US weekend box office.

Studio estimates have “Annabelle: Creation” earning $35.0 million this weekend. The figure is slightly below the $37.1 earned by “Annabelle” (which debuted at #2 in August 2014), but it towers above anything else at this weekend’s box office.

“Dunkirk,” its closest competition, added $11.4 million to its haul (its cumulative total is now $153.7 million).

New release “The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature” starts at #3 with $8.9 million. 2014’s “The Nut Job” debuted at #3 with $19.4 million.

“The Dark Tower,” last weekend’s winner, falls to #4 with $7.9 million (cume now $34.3 million).

Down two places, “The Emoji Movie” takes #5 with $6.6 million (cume now $63.6 million).
