Update: Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood’s “The Fighter” Actually Earns #1 On MB Country Radio Chart

In its final Sunday update, Mediabase confirms Keith Urban’s “The Fighter” as the #1 song at country radio.

Talk about a photo finish!

In its afternoon update (which almost always reflects the week’s definitive chart positions), Mediabase listed Billy Currington’s “Do I Make You Wanna” as the new #1 song on its country radio singles chart. Keith Urban’s “The Fighter (featuring Carrie Underwood)” was listed at #2.

Sunday night, Mediabase issued its final weekly chart update — and formally confirmed Urban’s tune as #1.

How close was this week’s race?

“The Fighter” and “Do I Make You Wanna” actually received the exact same number of chart points during the July 23-29 tracking week (24,098). Mediabase rules, however, award the tiebreaker to the song that posted the greater weekly gain.

As it received the greater lift in weekly chart points (+3,053 vs. +2,281), “The Fighter” claims #1 on this week’s chart.

“The Fighter” also ranks as the Mediabase country panel’s most-played song for the July 23-29 tracking week (8,125 spins, up 1,038 from last week). “Do I Make You Wanna,” however, received more audience impressions (53.305 million vs. 52.763 million).

“The Fighter” becomes the fifth country radio #1 from Urban’s “Ripcord” album.

Urban’s tune was #5 on last week’s chart; Currington’s song was #4.

— Up three places, Cole Swindell’s “Flatliner” grabs #3 on this week’s listing. Dylan Scott’s “My Girl” falls two spots to #4, while Justin Moore’s “Somebody Else Will” rises three places to #5.

Rascal Flatts’ “Yours If You Want It,” which topped last week’s chart, crashes to #10.
