“Dunkirk” Holds Off “The Emoji Movie,” Stays #1 At US Weekend Box Office

“Dunkirk” tops “The Emoji Movie” to win a second consecutive US weekend box office.

Based on studio estimates, “Dunkirk” will top “The Emoji Movie” for #1 at the US weekend box office.

“Dunkirk,” which debuted at #1 last weekend, will add an estimated $28.1 million to its haul this weekend (for a cumulative gross of $102.8 million).

The figure will give “Dunkirk” the edge over newcomer “Emoji,” which is set to close the weekend with $25.7 million. It debuts at #2 on the US Weekend

“The Emoji Movie” actually led the way on Friday, but stronger Saturday and Sunday performances gave “Dunkirk” the overall weekend win.

“Girls Trip” earns #3 with an estimated $20.1 million in second-weekend receipts (cumulative total now $65.5 million).

New release “Atomic Blonde” starts at #4 with $18.6 million, while “Spider-Man: Homecoming” takes fifth place on the strength of $13.5 million (cumulative total now $278.4 million).
