“Spider-Man: Homecoming” Conquers US Weekend Box Office

It had the second-biggest opening for a “Spider-Man” film.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” predictably dominated the US weekend box office.

According to studio estimates, “Homecoming” will take #1 with an estimated $117.0 million in opening weekend receipts.

The tally more than triples that of the #2 film. It also ranks as the second-best mark ever set by a “Spider-Man” film. Only 2007’s “Spider-Man 3” made a bigger splash in its first weekend ($151.1 million).

It is also the second-best opening for a Sony film (again, following “Spider-Man 3”).

“Despicable Me 3” grabs #2 on the weekend chart; it added $34.0 million to its haul (cumulative total now $149.2 million).

“Baby Driver” takes #3 with $12.8 million (cume now $56.9 million), while “Wonder Woman” earns #4 with $10.3 million (cume now $368.8 million).

“Transformers: The Last Knight,” the weekend’s #5 film, scored another $6.3 million in receipts (cume now $118.9 million).
