Ratings: ABC’s “Boy Band” Starts Softly, “Gong Show” Doesn’t Wow But Wins Timeslot

The premiere of ABC’s “Boy Band” failed to impress.

Neither “Boy Band” nor “The Gong Show” posted strong ratings Thursday night.

The latter did, however, win the 10PM timeslot. It also built upon its “Boy Band” lead-in among adults 18-49 and overall viewers.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Thursday’s “Boy Band” averaged a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating and 2.99 million viewers from 8-10PM.

While the episode posted the same 0.7 rating in both hours, it took a slight viewership hit in the second. The 8-9PM portion averaged 3.13 million, while the 9-10PM hour posted a 2.84 million viewers mark.

“Boy Band” led into the premiere of “The Gong Show,” which drew a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating and 3.77 million viewers.

Its numbers are certainly not spectacular, but the show does deserve credit for building on its lead-in (especially since it aired in a weaker timeslot). It also took first place among 10PM network programs in both adults 18-49 and overall viewership.
