Ratings: 2017 Tony Awards Ceremony Sinks Without “Hamilton” Boost

The lack of “Hamilton” focus meant much weaker viewership for the annual Tony Awards.

Aided by the emphasis on “Hamilton,” the 2016 Tony Awards posted huge year-over-year ratings and viewership gains.

This year’s ceremony, which did not have the “Hamilton” boost, gave back those gains — and then some.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s ceremony averaged a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating and 6.01 million overall viewers from 8-11PM.

The numbers markedly trail the 1.6 rating and 8.72 million viewer mark drawn by last year’s ceremony.

They also trail the 1.0 rating and 6.46 million mark posted in 2015.
