“Alien: Covenant” Edges “Guardians Of The Galaxy” For #1 At US Weekend Box Office

The new “Alien” narrowly tops “Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2” for #1. “Everything, Everything” debuts at #3.

Based on studio estimates, “Alien: Covenant” takes first place in a tight US weekend box office race.

Estimates have the new release earning $36.0 million this weekend. The count narrowly tops the $35.1 million earned by “Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2,” which had spent the past two weekend at #1.

While it was not enough for #1 (barring an adjustment in the final report), the $35.1 million does bring the “Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2” cumulative total past $300 million. The film’s total now stands at $301.8 million.

Newcomer “Everything, Everything” debuts at #3 on the US weekend chart. It earned $12.0 million.
