Ratings: MTV Movie & TV Awards Ceremony Declines From Last Year’s Show

The MTV broadcast of the 2017 Movie & TV Awards drew fewer viewers than the 2016 Movie Awards.

The addition of TV categories, hype over genderless acting awards and celebration of “The Fast And The Furious” did not help ratings for MTV’s spring awards show.

The 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards drew fewer viewers than the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s MTV broadcast drew a 0.61 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.177 million viewers. Last year’s show drew a 0.78 rating and 1.450 million viewers on MTV.

In addition to airing on MTV, the 2017 and 2016 shows both aired across a myriad of other Viacom networks. Available data for those simulcasts also suggests a year-over-year decline.

This year’s concurrent broadcasters included Spike (0.13/290,000), VH1 (0.12/306,000), BET (0.12/325,000), Comedy Central (0.11/236,000), and TV Land (0.09/303,000). The other broadcasts, including those on MTV2 and MTV Classic, did not draw big enough ratings to make Showbuzz’ initial chart (confirming that they did not substantially boost overall viewership).

Last year’s concurrent broadcasters included Comedy Central (0.32/602,000), VH1 (0.16/347,000), BET (0.14/384,000), TV Land (0.10/293,000), MTV2 (0.09/182,000), CMT (0.07/184,000), VH1 Classic (0.02/53,000), and Logo (0.01/45,000).

The 2017 show was hosted by Adam Devine and featured performances by Noah Cyrus, Big Sean and J Balvin, Pitbull & Camila Cabello.

The 2016 show featured hosts The Rock and Kevin Hart and performances by Halsey, Ariana Grande, Salt-N-Pepa, and The Lonely Island.
