Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” Posts Big Numbers On Spotify, YouTube

The “Despacito” remix sets a record on Spotify and scores the best debut of 2017 on YouTube.

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito (featuring Justin Bieber)” had a mammoth first week on Spotify and YouTube, and Republic touted the numbers in a Monday morning press release.

The remix, which has already amassed over 25 million Spotify streams, was the first Spanish-language song to reach #1 on the platform’s global chart.

In amassing over 76 million YouTube views in a week, the official audio meanwhile ranks as the video service’s “#1 debut of 2017.”

The success should not be surprising. The original was already a phenomenon on both platforms — it is the #1 Spanish song ever on Spotify, while its YouTube video has over 1 billion views — and the remix features a legitimate streaming sensation in Justin Bieber (plus some English lyrics to help broaden the reach).

“Despacito” has also fared well on iTunes and Apple Music, and it is beginning to take off at mainstream radio.
