The Chainsmokers’ “Memories” Pacing For Big Second Week Sales Drop

Track sales and streams will ensure a strong Billboard 200 position, but “Memories…Do Not Open” will endure a big drop in pure sales.

According to BuzzAngle Music, The Chainsmokers’ “Memories…Do Not Open” sold 165,167 pure US copies during its first week of release. Billboard has the number at an even stronger 166,000.

Its second-week total will be a far cry from those impressive numbers.

Based on data from the first half of the week, Hits Daily Double projects that the album will sell 17-20,000 pure US copies in its second week.

Assuming the figure holds, the figure will be down nearly 90% from the week one total. The loss will be one of the largest ever suffered by a #1 album.

Thanks to another week of strong track sales and streams, the album will nonetheless remain prominently positioned on the Billboard 200.

Hits projects the inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) to yield a second-week consumption total of 50-55,000. That would likely be enough for #5 on the Billboard 200 consumption chart, with only Kendrick Lamar’s “DAMN.,” John Mayer’s “The Search For Everything,” Drake’s “More Life,” and Ed Sheeran’s “Divide” certain to land higher.
