Nick Jonas To Receive Hero Award At 2017 RDMAs, Recognizing His Type 1 Work

Based on his work in raising awareness about Type 1 Diabetes, Nick Jonas will receive the “Hero” Award at this year’s Radio Disney Music Awards ceremony.

Radio Disney confirmed the news Wednesday.

Jonas, who was diagnosed with Type 1 at 13, helped found “Beyond Type 1.” The non-profit leverages social media to provide resources for those affected; it also provides funding for research, education and support programs.

Jack Black will present Jonas with the award.

In addition to honoring Jonas’ work, the RDMAs will honor two youth leaders with the “Heroes For Change” Award.

Natalie Hampton, 16, will be honored for her work in founding Sit With Us, a mobile app that helps ensure kids do not have to sit alone during lunch.

Jocelyn Woods will be named a Hero for establishing the Under-represented Teen Advocacy Program, which helps Bay Area teens in need.
