Ratings: The CW’s “Vampire Diaries” Series Finale Posts Minor Gain, Still Sets Season High

Based on preliminary data, the series finale of one-time The CW flagship “The Vampire Diaries” did not receive a major boost in live+same-day viewership.

That small boost was enough, however, to set a season high.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Friday’s “The Vampire Diaries” finale drew a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.19 million viewers in the 9PM timeslot.

Last week’s episode drew a 0.4 rating and 1.13 million in viewership. At the time, it was the most-watched “TVD” of the season. Its adults 18-49 rating tied the standing season high.

The modest week-to-week boost suggests that excitement over the series finale did little to lure back those who stopped regularly watching the show in recent years. It may have been a strong eighth season “Vampire Diaries” broadcast, but it was a soft performer — and certainly not an “event” — in comparison to the show’s historical standard.

The CW led into the 9PM finale with a “Vampire Diaries” special in the 8PM hour. It drew a 0.4 rating and 1.14 million in viewership.
