Upon seeing news that last week’s “Big Little Lies” suffered a huge live+same-day viewership decline from the February 19 premiere, television analysts were left with a big question.
Was the decline due to competition from the Academy Awards (and the show’s associated early availability on streaming) or due to disinterest in the show?
Ratings for this week’s episode seemingly confirm that the Oscars and streaming factors were to blame.
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Big Little Lies” drew a 0.41 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.04 million total viewers.
The numbers markedly top the 0.19 rating and 0.56 million viewership figure posted last week. The demo rating actually tops the 0.31 drawn by the premiere (the premiere drew a stronger 1.13 million viewership figure, however).
HBO’s other Sunday shows also posted gains this week. “Girls” rose from 0.19/0.38 million to 0.24/0.57 million, “Crashing” improved from 0.10/0.20 million to 0.16/0.41 million and “Last Week Tonight” soared from 0.27/0.72 million to 0.45/1.28 million.
