Update: Billboard has made the news official: Pentatonix’s “A Pentatonix Christmas” claims #1 on Top Album Sales and the Billboard 200.
It tops the former thanks to what Billboard reports as 185K weekly pure US sales. The inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) yields a consumption tally of 206K units, which results in #1 on the Billboard 200.
Pentatonix has two albums in the Top 5 on this week’s Billboard 200; its “That’s Christmas To Me” is #5 with 78K units. Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” (#2, 114K units), The Weeknd’s “Starboy” (#3, 101K units), and J. Cole’s “4 Your Eyez Only” (#4, 90K units) land in between the two.

The last US album sales race prior to Christmas falls in favor of Pentatonix’s hit holiday album “A Pentatonix Christmas.”
According to BuzzAngle/Hits, “A Pentatonix Christmas” sold approximately 179,831 pure US copies during the December 16-22 tracking week. The count nearly doubles that of the week’s #2 seller.
With TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) included, “A Pentatonix Christmas” generated 200,940 in total weekly consumption units. That easily ranks as the week’s best consumption figure.
Due Sunday or Monday, Billboard’s more authoritative data will differ slightly from that reported by BuzzAngle. The disparity will not, however, be enough to change the overall outcome: “A Pentatonix Christmas” will be #1 on Top Album Sales (pure sales) and the Billboard 200 (consumption).
