Ariana Grande Nicki Minaj [Side To Side Video/Republic]
Going into the December 4-10 tracking week, it seemed inevitable that Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side (featuring Nicki Minaj)” would reach #1 on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.
Opening day airplay data does nothing to change that assumption.
According to Mediabase, “Side To Side” was Sunday’s #1 song at the pop format. It received 2,248 spins on the first day of the tracking week, besting last Sunday’s count by 3.9%.
While it only leads The Chainsmokers’ building #2 “Closer (featuring Halsey)” by eight spins, it has the momentum advantage. Whereas “Side To Side” is up 3.9% from last Sunday, “Closer” is down 7.9%.
Barring a sudden reversal in trajectory, “Side To Side” should hold on through the close of tracking.
“Side To Side” will be Ariana Grande’s third #1, following in the footsteps of “Problem” and “Bang Bang.” The latter was also a collaboration with Nicki Minaj (and Jessie J).
