Benefiting from post-election intrigue and rare television appearances by host Dave Chappelle and musical guest A Tribe Called Quest, Saturday’s “SNL” predictably posted strong overnight ratings.
Citing metered market data, NBC notes that Saturday’s episode drew a 6.2 overnight household rating. It drew a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating in the 25 markets with local people meters.
Both figures are season highs.
The overnight household rating, moreover, ranks as the show’s best since November 7, 2015. The adults 18-49 rating is the best since the December 21, 2013 episode (host Jimmy Fallon, musical guest Justin Timberlake) drew the same 3.9. “SNL” last drew better in the demo on January 7, 2012 (a 4.1 for the Charles Barkley-Kelly Clarkson episode, which was boosted by NFL Playoffs coverage).
Hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch and featuring musical guest Solange, last week’s episode drew a 5.8 overnight household rating and a 2.8 local adults 18-49 rating.
“Saturday Night Live” has been on fire from a ratings standpoint this season. It will be interesting to see if it can maintain its ratings momentum now that the election is over.
