Carrie Underwood’s debut album “Some Hearts” has ascended to the impressive 8x platinum tier in the United States.
Issued October 24, 2016, the certification confirms 8 million in US album units. Each unit is equal to 1 paid download, 10 track sales or 1500 track streams.
“Some Hearts” was not the only Underwood album to earn a new RIAA award on October 24.
Follow-up “Carnival Ride” earned a 4x platinum certification (4 million), while 2009’s “Play On” went triple platinum (3 million).
“Blown Away” (2x platinum, 2 million) and “Storyteller” (platinum, 1 million) also received upgraded album certifications.
In a press release touting the new certifications, Sony Music notes that Underwood is now the “RIAA’s highest certified country album artist to debut this century.”
She also holds the distinction for most digital single certifications among country artists.
