G.R.L. Comments As Fans Compare Little Mix’s “Shout Out To My Ex” To “Ugly Heart”

Does the chorus of Little Mix’s new “Shout Out To My Ex” resemble that of G.R.L’s 2014 single “Ugly Heart”?

Many music fans seem to think so. Almost immediately after the Little Mix song premiered Sunday, fans began Tweeting about the similarity.

G.R.L. itself also seems to notice the likeness. Sunday night, the girl group joined the conversation with a simple, yet resonant Tweet.

“#ShoutOutToUglyHeart,” wrote G.R.L., which now consists of Lauren Bennett, Natasha Slayton, and Jazzy Mejia. The message currently has over 1300 re-Tweets and over 1500 likes.

Little Mix has yet to issue its own comment on the matter, instead choosing to celebrate the strong support the song has received from Mixers. “Shout Out To My Ex” is currently #1 on the UK iTunes store and #14 in the US.

A hit in numerous international markets, “Ugly Heart” began to receive meaningful US exposure late in the summer of 2014. The single was selected for the coveted iHeartRadio “On The Verge” program, which provides branding support and guaranteed airplay across the influential iHeart network of stations.

G.R.L. member Simone Battle committed suicide shortly after the “On The Verge” support commenced. For the other G.R.L. members, promoting the song understandably took a backseat to dealing with the tragedy, and its US momentum quickly faded.
