The BET and MTV broadcasts of the 2016 “Hip Hop Awards” drew fewer live+same-day viewers than the 2015 edition.
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s show drew a 0.78 adults 18-49 rating and 1.64 million total viewers on BET. The MTV simulcast drew a 0.17 rating and 0.34 million total viewers.
Last year’s installment drew a 0.93 adults 18-49 rating and 1.81 million viewers on BET. It scored a 0.18 rating and 0.37 million total viewers on MTV. The performance marked a big decline from that of the 2014 edition, which drew a 1.5 rating and 2.94 million viewers on BET alone.
The 2016 and 2015 ceremonies also aired on MTV2. This year’s MTV2 airing posted a 0.10 adults 18-49 rating and 0.18 million total viewers. Data for last year’s MTV2 broadcast was not available at press time.
Of note: this year’s ceremony faced more intense opposition in the 9-10:36PM window. Tuesday’s Vice Presidential debate was not a mammoth television affair, but the multi-network event did outdraw the Vice Presidential Debate that aired against last year’s Hip Hop Awards.
