Update: The second season premiere of FOX’s “Scream Queens” failed to ignite significant live+same-day interest.
According to final live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s episode drew a mere 1.0 adults 18-49 rating and 2.17 million total viewers.
The viewership figure represents a non-holiday low; only the 2015 Thanksgiving Week episode drew fewer lives+same-day viewers. The adults 18-49 mark is not a series low but still disappointing for a season premiere.
FOX’s 8PM comedies also failed to impress. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” delivered a soft 1.1 rating and 2.39 million audience members at 8PM, while 8:30PM series “New Girl” posted a 1.2 and 2.31 million.

While the adults 18-49 and total viewership figures may (but probably will not) be more flattering, the overnight household rating for Tuesday’s “Scream Queens” premiere is very soft.
According to metered market data posted by Programming Insider, Tuesday’s season two premiere drew a mere 1.5 overnight household rating.
Weak from a competitive standpoint, the figure is low even by the show’s modest first season standard.
The first season of “Scream Queens” compensated for its soft live+same-day numbers with solid DVR upticks and ample social media buzz. The series better hope for the same this year, as it does not appear season two will generate additional L+SD interest.
— FOX led into “Scream Queens” with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “New Girl.” The comedies averaged a soft 1.6 overnight household rating in the 8PM hour.
— The fast national ratings, which will include preliminary adults 18-49 and viewership figures, are due by 11:15AM ET.
