Weezer’s Classic “Pinkerton” Earns Platinum Honor In United States

Weezer’s beloved “Pinkerton” album has officially crossed the platinum threshold in the United States.

The 1996 album, which launched to a modest initial reaction but is now viewed as one of the best albums of the 1990s, earned its platinum honor on September 16, 2016.

The certification confirms 1 million in US units. Under the terms of the RIAA’s albums program, each unit is equal to 1 album sale, 10 track sales or 1500 track streams.

“Weezer” also has platinum album certifications for “Make Believe” and 2001’s “Weezer” (the green album). The band’s 1994 self-titled debut (the blue album) is triple platinum.
