Ratings: FX’s “Atlanta” Premieres Similarly To “Baskets”

From a live+same-day ratings standpoint, the premiere of FX’s “Atlanta” performed similarly to this past winter’s “Baskets” launch.

According to L+SD data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s first “Atlanta” episode drew a 0.53 adults 18-49 rating and 1.08 million total viewers. The immediate follow-up scored a 0.48 rating and reached 0.96 million viewers.

The night one averages — 0.51 in the demo and 1.02 million viewers — are in the same basic ballpark as the 0.46 adults 18-49 rating and 1.04 million viewer mark garnered by the first “Baskets” episode on January 21, 2016.

“Baskets” ultimately settled into a live+same-day viewership range far below that of the premiere; the subsequent nine episodes drew an average of about 538,000 audience members. The show nonetheless remained valuable enough to secure a second season renewal.

FX, it should be noted, takes a strong stance against focusing on live+same-day numbers. If the network weighs in the “Atlanta” performance, it will not be until live+3 or live+7 data is available.
