HBO’s “The Night Of” predictably soared to a viewership high for Sunday’s finale.
According to live+same-day data, Sunday’s extended-length finale drew a 0.86 adults 18-49 rating and 2.16 million total viewers. The numbers easily best the 0.69 rating and 1.76 million viewership figure drawn by last week’s broadcast, which at the time ranked as highs for the limited series.
This week’s episode was the fifth consecutive “The Night Of” to post a week-to-week gain in total viewership.
HBO, meanwhile, notes that the majority of the show’s audience has not even been watching the initial telecast. Multi-platform, on demand, DVR and encore viewing reportedly resulted in average viewership of 7 million per episode.
Sunday’s “The Night Of” ran until 10:35PM, and lead-out “Ballers” did not start until 10:45PM. That delayed start — it usually begins at 10PM — seems to have had a detrimental effect on the HBO comedy. Sunday’s episode drew a 0.48 adults 18-49 rating and 1.01 million total viewers; the numbers represent series lows.
“Vice Principals” followed with series lows of its own; it drew a 0.30 rating and 0.62 million total viewers.
Last week’s “Ballers” posted a 0.64 rating and 1.32 million live+same-day viewers. Last week’s “Vice Principals” drew a 0.41 and 0.85 million.
