Twenty One Pilots May Score Separate Number Ones At Pop & Alternative Radio This Week

Twenty One Pilots has a good chance of reaching #1 on two different radio charts this week — with two different songs.

The duo’s “Ride” is pacing for #1 on the Mediabase pop radio chart; “Heathens” looks poised for #1 on the alternative listing.

— “Ride” received 15,141 pop spins during the first six days of the August 21-27 tracking week. While the count narrowly trails last week’s mark by 0.4%, it positions “Ride” at #1 on Mediabase’s building pop chart.

Currently #2 on the building chart, Sia’s “Cheap Thrills (featuring Sean Paul)” is close behind with 15,090 spins. Its sharper rate of week-to-week decline (-4.8%), however, suggests it will not close the gap by week’s end.

— “Heathens” garnered 2,580 alternative spins during the tracking week’s first six days. The count, which bests the same-time-last-week tally by 3.7%, positions the “Suicide Squad” song at #1 on Mediabase’s building alternative listing.

While the spin advantage over Cage The Elephant’s building #2 “Trouble” (2,555 over the first six days) is not significant, “Heathens” has more momentum. Whereas “Heathens” is up 3.7% week-to-week, “Trouble” is only up 0.2%.
