Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” Takes Lead In Race For #1 At Hot AC Radio

It has spent the past four weeks atop the Mediabase pop airplay chart.

This week, Sia’s “Cheap Thrills (featuring Sean Paul)” may reach #1 at hot adult contemporary radio.

The smash hit received 1,982 spins during the first two days of the August 14-20 tracking week. Up 2.7% from the count at this point last week, the tally slots “Cheap Thrills” at #1 on Mediabase’s building chart.

Its lead is presently very narrow — Adele’s building #2 “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” is only 3 spins behind, and Justin Timberlake’s building #3 “Can’t Stop The Feeling” trails by 4 — but it has a distinct momentum advantage. Whereas “Cheap Thrills” is up 2.7% in week-to-week spins, Adele’s tune is down 1.3%. “Can’t Stop The Feeling” is up 1.2%.

As the week is only days old, it is too early to guarantee a #1 finish for “Cheap Thrills.” Such an outcome nonetheless appears quite likely.
