Whether their first exposure to the song came via a clip of a live, pre-release performance or following the song’s July 29 premiere, a seemingly endless array of music pundits (Headline Planet’s team included) predicted The Chainsmokers’ “Closer (featuring Halsey)” would be a big hit.
Thus far, it is living up to the lofty expectations. It is performing impressively on the sales, streaming and radio fronts.
After spending much of last week at #1, it is still prominently positioned at #3 on the US iTunes single sales chart.
With 1.36 million registered streams, it ranked as Monday’s #1 song on the US Spotify chart.
It is also quickly gaining traction at pop radio. “Closer” debuted at #30 on last week’s Mediabase pop radio airplay chart, and it is already up to #24 on the building chart for the coming tracking week.
“Closer” debuted at #9 on the most recent edition of the all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100 chart. Given the way it is performing on all fronts, it will likely blow past that peak in the near future.
