“Jason Bourne” Easily Wins Weekend Box Office, “Star Trek Beyond” Edges “Bad Moms” For #2, “Nerve” #8

“Jason Bourne,” which dominated the Friday box office, held its lead through the Sunday. It easily ranks as the weekend’s #1 film in the US.

“Star Trek Beyond,” meanwhile, appears to have overtaken “Bad Moms” for #2.

Per studio estimates, “Jason Bourne” earned $60 million. The gross marks the second-best opening for a “Bourne” franchise film; only 2007’s “The Bourne Ultimatum” ($69.3 million) had a hotter start.

“Star Trek Beyond” is set to earn $24.0 million through the close of weekend tracking. That should give it the edge over “Bad Moms,” which is expected to post an opening weekend total of $23.4 million.

“Star Trek Beyond” did not overperform — its 59.5% weekend-to-weekend drop is nothing about which to write home — but “Bad Moms” landed on the low-end of post-Friday night projections.

Down two places, “The Secret Life Of Pets” takes #4 with $18.2 million, while “Lights Out” drops from #3 to #5 on the strength of $10.8 million in second weekend receipts.

New release “Nerve” debuts at #8; it will post an opening weekend gross of about $9.0 million.
