With only two days remaining in the official July 10-16 tracking period, Carrie Underwood’s “Church Bells” looks like a safe bet to reach #1 on this week’s Mediabase country radio singles chart.
“Church Bells” currently holds the top spot on Mediabase’s building country chart. After five days, it is the convincing leader in chart points; it also ranks as the format’s #1 song for spins and audience impressions.
Jason Aldean’s “Lights Come On,” which topped last week’s Mediabase chart, is enduring a week-to-week airplay decline and thus of no threat to “Church Bells.” Florida Georgia Line’s “H.O.L.Y.,” last week’s #3 song, is on the rise, but it is unlikely to catch “Church Bells” before the chart goes final.
Should “Church Bells” go #1, Underwood’s “Storyteller” album will improve to 3-for-3 when it comes to scoring country radio number ones. Previous singles “Smoke Break” and “Heartbeat” both reached #1 on the Mediabase chart; “Heartbeat” also topped Billboard’s corresponding Country Airplay listing.
