“Secret Life Of Pets” Dominates Friday Box Office; “Mike And Dave” #2, May Be #4 By Sunday

“The Secret Life Of Pets” predictably obliterated its competition at the Friday US box office, positioning itself for a dominant weekend victory.

“Pets” earned about $38.5 million in opening day receipts. The tally, which puts the film on track for an opening weekend in the $95-$102 million range, more than quintuples that of Friday’s #2 film.

“Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates,” that film, earned about $6.7 million Friday.

While “Mike and Dave” was #2 at the Friday box office, it may be overtaken by the more family-skewing (thus Saturday matinee-friendly) “Finding Dory” and “The Legend Of Tarzan” by the end of the weekend.

“Finding Dory” was Friday’s #3 film with $6.3 million; “Tarzan” was #4 with $6.1 million.

“The Purge: Election Year” completed the Friday Top 5 with $4.0 million in receipts.
