Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Getaway” Sales Forecast Upgraded; Drake Still In BB200 Mix

Hits Daily Double has slightly upgraded its opening week sales and consumption forecasts for The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “The Getaway.”

The publication, which initially expected the album to sell 90-95,000 pure US copies and generate 100-105,000 in total consumption (pure album sales + track sales/10 + track streams/1500) this week, now projects 100-105,000 in pure sales and 110-115,000 in consumption.

“The Getaway” was already considered a virtual lock to win the pure sales race, and the elevated figure serves as an exclamation point.

The improved consumption figure, meanwhile, suggests “The Getaway” has a real chance of dethroning Drake’s “Views” on this week’s Billboard 200.

“Views” generated 121,000 in consumption this past week, which marked a decline of 10% from the previous week’s total. A similar decline this week would put “Views” at around 109,000 in weekly units.

There is, of course, no guarantee that “Views” will suffer precisely the same week-to-week decline, so it seems safe to project 105-115,000 in weekly consumption. That overlaps with the projected “Getaway” total and suggests Drake’s album will very much contend for an eighth straight week at #1.
