“The Conjuring 2” Leads Friday Box Office, “Warcraft,” “Now You See Me 2” Follow

While slightly less potent than its predecessor, “The Conjuring 2” fared well enough Friday to claim #1 at the US box office.

The horror sequel earned $16.4 million on its first day of release. Down narrowly from the $17.0 million earned by 2013’s “The Conjuring” (which ended up earning $41.9 million in its first weekend), the tally tops the gross of this Friday’s #2 film.

“Warcraft,” that #2 film, earned $10.7 million on day one.

Fellow new release “Now You See Me 2” followed at #3. Its $8.4 million first day sum trails the $10.1 million day one gross attained by 2013’s “Now You See Me.”

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows” was #4 on Friday. It earned $4.0 million, which trails last Friday’s opening day sum by a substantial 68%.

“Me Before You” was fifth with $3.1 million, down 61% from last Friday’s haul.
