Wednesday’s CMT Music Awards ceremony, which aired concurrently on CMT, Nickelodeon/Nick-At-Nite, and TV Land, reached a larger overall audience than last year’s broadcast.
Last year’s simulcast did not, however, air on Nick. It was broadcast across CMT, TV Land and the nominally rated TeenNick.
It, on the other hand, aired without competition from the NBA Finals. The 9-10:22PM portion of this year’s show was up against the highly rated basketball game.
According to national data posted by Showbuzz, Wednesday’s 2016 CMT Awards ceremony drew a 0.52 adults 18-49 rating and 1.60 million total viewers on CMT, an average of a 0.32 and 1.12 million on Nick/Nick-At-Nite, and a 0.13 and 0.61 million on TV Land. The three broadcasts combined for a 0.97 adults 18-49 rating and 3.33 million total viewers.
Last year’s drew a 0.59 rating and 1.89 million viewers on CMT and a 0.26 and 0.87 million on TV Land, resulting in totals of 0.85 in adults 18-49 and 2.76 million [TeenNick data was not available at press time, but based on CMT’s claim that the 2016 show was up by 21% in total viewership, the contribution must have been negligible].
Tim McGraw’s “Humble And Kind” was named video of the year at the 2016 ceremony.
