The Strumbellas’ “Spirits” Stays #1 at Alt Radio; Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers Blast Into Top 5

The Strumbellas’ breakthrough hit “Spirits” earns a second week at #1 on the Mediabase alternative airplay chart.

“Spirits” retains its throne courtesy the ~3,078 spins it received during the May 8-14 tracking week. While that trails last week’s count by 51, it still keeps the Canadian band’s song ahead of the competition.

As it did last week, twenty one pilots’ “Ride” grabs the runner-up spot. It garnered ~2,933 weekly spins (-102). The Lumineers’ “Ophelia” holds at #3 with ~2,721 plays (+152).

Up six places, Blink-182’s “Bored To Death” soars to #4 on the strength of its ~2,106 (+423).

Impressive, the gain has nothing on that enjoyed by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dark Necessities.” The lead “The Getaway” single rockets from #21 to #5 thanks to a weekly spin count of ~2,043.

This week’s spin count bests last week’s by 1,275 spins, which represents the alternative format’s greatest weekly airplay gain.

“Bored To Death” is in its third week on the chart; “Dark Necessities” is in its second.
