Beyonce’s “Sorry” Gaining Airplay at Rhythmic, Urban Radio; “Hold Up” Also Rising at Urban

Rhythmic and urban radio programmers continue to spin the tracks from Beyonce’s new “Lemonade” album, with several receiving particularly noteworthy airplay.

Though down in week-to-week airplay — it had peaked at urban and rhythmic radio prior to the release of “Lemonade,” and programmer excitement is shifting to the new tracks — “Formation” is still on the radar. After the first three days of the April 24-30 tracking week, it is #39 on the building rhythmic chart (267 spins, -21.5%) and #11 on the building urban chart (1,025 spins, -14.2%).

Among new tracks, “Sorry” currently leads the way at both formats.

The song, which received 118 rhythmic spins and 180 urban spins over the first three days of the tracking week, is presently #49 on the building chart for the former and #46 on the building chart for the latter.

Because it is unclear how attention being paid to the song will change as the week progresses, it is too early to project where “Sorry” will land on the official weekly airplay charts. What is clear, however, is that radio has been showing enthusiasm over “Sorry.”

“Hold Up” is also presently in the mix at urban; it is #50 on the building airplay chart with 163 spins received over the first three days. It is just below the building Top 50 at rhythmic.

“Freedom” and “6 Inch” have also been receiving noteworthy attention at both formats.
