“Jungle Book” Tops $100M, Wins Weekend Box Office; “Barbershop: The Next Cut” Takes #2

Everyone who remotely follows the US box office knew “The Jungle Book” would be the weekend’s #1 film.

Few expected to perform as impressively as it did.

The critically acclaimed release earned an estimated $103.6 million this weekend. Comfortably ahead of expectations, the tally also positions “The Jungle Book” comfortably ahead of the pack.

Fellow newcomer “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” which takes #2, trails distantly with $20.2 million.

A second weekend gross of $10.2 million slots “The Boss” at #3, while “Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice” slips to #4 with $9.0 million.

“Zootopia” grabs fifth place — and crosses the $300 million cumulative mark — with $8.2 million in weekend receipts.

“Criminal,” the weekend’s only other major new release, takes sixth with $5.9 million.
