Sturgill Simpson’s “A Sailor’s Guide To Earth” Takes #1 on US iTunes Sales Chart

While it is unclear whether Sturgill Simpson’s new “A Sailor’s Guide To Earth” will land on the overall weekly US album sales chart, it is very clear that it is making an immediate impact with iTunes buyers.

Officially made available late Thursday night, Simpsons’s album is presently #1 on the store’s all-genre album sales chart. It seized the throne from The Lumineers’ “Ophelia,” which spent the past week in the top spot.

As of 1:55AM ET Friday morning, “Ophelia” is #2 on the chart. Santana’s new “Santana IV” is #3, while twenty one pilots’ “Blurryface” and Royce da 5’9″‘s “Layers” respectively rank at #4 and #5.

Chris Stapleton’s enduring “Traveller” (#6), the “20 #1s: Alternative Rock” compilation (#7), Musiq Soulchild’s new “Life On Earth” (#8), Jordan Smith’s “Something Beautiful” (#9) and Panic! At The Disco’s “Death Of A Bachelor” (#10) form the rest of the top 10.

Sales projections for the overall market should emerge this weekend.
