“Stitchers” Premiere Sets Ratings Low; “Shadowhunters” Holds Steady Without “PLL”

Airing without the “Pretty Little Liars” lead-in support it received for most of its first season episodes, the second season premiere of Freeform’s “Stitchers” set live+same-day lows in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

Per data from Showbuzz, Tuesday’s “Stitchers” drew a 0.17 adults 18-49 rating and 0.43 million total viewers. Both numbers are lows for the series, trailing even those drawn by the October 20, 2015 special episode.

In airing out of “Shadowhunters,” Tuesday’s premiere did not receive anywhere near the lead-in boost it typically received from “Pretty Little Liars.” Worth noting, however, is the fact that the July 7, 2015 episode, which also aired sans a “Pretty Little Liars” boost, drew considerably stronger marks of a 0.30 in adults 18-49 and 0.71 million in total viewers.

In evaluating potential sources of the decline, one may consider the fact that this week’s episode aired at 10PM. Freeform does not typically run original series in that hour; the first season of “Stitchers” occupied the 9PM timeslot.

As noted, Freeform led into this week’s “Stitchers” with “Shadowhunters.” While it was also airing without the “Pretty Little Liars” boost it had previously received, it completely held up. This week’s episode matched last week’s 0.33 adults 18-49 rating and 0.78 million viewership mark.
