In advance of the weekly Billboard chart reveal, music tracking service BuzzAngle Music is offering its take on the week’s most downloaded and streamed singles in the United States.
Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece By Piece” tops the digital sales chart. According to BuzzAngle’s numbers, which will differ slightly from those reported by Billboard (but not enough to affect the chart position), the song sold upwards of 211,000 US copies during the February 26-March 3 tracking week.
“Piece By Piece” was greatly aided by Clarkson’s performance on the Thursday, February 25 edition of “American Idol.” Over 21,000 sales were recorded that night (and counted toward the previous tracking week); “Piece By Piece” accordingly debuted on last week’s Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
Along with greatly improved streaming and radio data, the aforementioned February 26-March 3 sales total signposts a prominent debut on this week’s actual Billboard Hot 100.
Citing a weekly streaming total of over 43 million (a figure that, again, may not precisely match Billboard’s number), the BuzzAngle service meanwhile identifies Rihanna’s “Work (featuring Drake)” as the week’s most streamed song.
The note is hardly surprising; a behemoth on audio streaming services, “Work” also benefited from a full week’s worth of music video availability.
